Radio 355 - Key Dates

** March 1967

Radio 355 launched from Laissez Faire after repairs to the ship’s mast had been completed

3rd July 1967

A distress call was received from the Laissez Faire, saying that a crewman on board had assaulted the Captain and was threatening murder, authorities confused about responsibility to assist

14th July 1967

The Marine etc. Broadcasting (Offences) Act received the Royal Assent and will come into effect on 15th August 1967.

2nd August 1967

It was announced that Radio 355 would be closing at midnight on Saturday 5th August 1967

6th August 1967

Radio 355 closed at 12.21am after the final programme overran

30th July 1967

US General William Westmoreland claims that he is winning the war in Vietnam and needs more troops.

1st August 1967 Israel acts on a threat made to Jordan at the beginning of the Six-Day War and takes control of the entire city of Jerusalem.
